Before you get started, you need to ensure you have the right fixtures. We don’t recommend using adhesive hooks as they’re not reliable long term. All framed prints are supplied with picture hooks, but you may need something different for your wall type. If in doubt, contact your local hardware store.
A4, A3 and A2 frames use a single picture hook to hang from. A1 frames use 2 pictures hooks, placed 350mm apart. For A0 sized frames, hang directly on the D-rings. Do not string.
You then need to work out placement. Try to avoid hanging your art in direct sunlight, near heat sources or in humid places like a bathroom. UV resistant and non-reflective glass is available upon request.
In most situations, art should sit at the average viewer’s eye level. This means placing the centre of your artwork 1500mm from ground level. This may vary slightly if placing art above a piece of furniture, in which case, ensure there is at least 200mm between the bottom of the artwork and the top of the furniture. If hanging multiple artworks, aim for 75mm spacing in between. In general though, the 1500mm rule is a good rule-of-thumb to follow.
Before nailing in your picture hook, you need to calculate where your hanging wire or string sits in relation to the centre of the artwork. Measure the distance from the centre of the artwork to the top of the hanging wire, ensuring you factor in the weight of the artwork.
Then add this measurement to 1500mm – this is the height to install your wall fixture.
Once you’ve hung your artwork, you may like to use a level to ensure its straight.
